Guide to All 27 Carnival Cruise Ships

This doesn’t look out over the ocean though, it overlooks a walkway, but if you want some natural light in your room then be sure to look out for these on the deckplans. Carnival Cruise Line doesn’t offer single rooms for solo travellers, but the Upper/Lower room is the nearest you’ll get. When the extra bed isn’t made up, it is essentially a single room. Get all the comforts of home and then some, with absolutely none of the hassles. Or just spend time on your balcony — you’ve got one of our most spacious rooms.

Everything you want to know about cabins and suites on Carnival Cruise Line ships

But don’t let the numbers fool you; this ship is packed with high-energy activities for all ages; from the kid's clubs to the casino, there’s no lack of fun to be had. Initially built in 2019 for Costa Cruises, this ship joined the Carnival fleet in 2023. Carnival Venezia is ideal if you’re looking for a ship that celebrates one of Italy’s most iconic cities.

What is a Porthole Stateroom?

I recommend you take advantage of Carnival's convenient 24-hour reservation hold, which displays the total cost, itinerary, and a countdown timer so you know when to purchase to secure the locked-in price. It's not a shiny, new vessel, so don't expect flawless cabins and the latest attractions. What you can expect, though, is to have nonstop fun thanks to a variety of diversions and an enthusiastic group of like-minded shipmates. On Carnival Sunshine, smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is only allowed in designated outdoor areas and in the casino.

Interior Upper/Lower (Porthole)

You’ll still save money compared to a Balcony but you’ll feel less cramped. What’s unusual about Interior Upper/Lower rooms is that while some have portholes and some don’t, they all have the same category code of 1A. If you wanted to have a room with portholes you can request one, but it’ll depend on availability and your ship. Because you can’t fit two in the same bed, they’re not ideal for couples unless you don’t mind sleeping separately. They’re good for cruising with a friend, as long as one of you doesn’t mind the smaller bed.

TOP-TO-BOTTOM, FRONT-TO-BACK FUN

Note that three of the line's newest ships — Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Venezia — do not have launderettes. Carnival fans are quite peeved about this, and you should be, too. The social and value plans cost $18 and $23 per day, respectively, when bought onboard a ship. A few other forms of identification, such as a passport card, also are acceptable. Older kids (aged 15-17) are grouped into what's known as Club O2 and have their own lounge for meeting up, listening to music, dancing, singing karaoke and other activities.

Balcony

Some Interior Upper/Lower rooms actually have small porthole windows. On most other cruise ships these would be classed as Ocean View, but Carnival classes any room with small portholes and Interior. Any time you’re in your room, you’re steps away from your own personal outdoor oasis… designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views. Note that on some Carnival ships, specific categories of balcony cabins have larger balconies than most. Often these rooms are at the back of the ships overlooking the wake.

Interior Staterooms

Whether you use a travel agent or not, make sure to maximize your credit card points when paying for the cruise by using a credit card that offers extra points for travel purchases. This could be the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which offers 3 Ultimate Rewards points on travel and dining (excluding the annual $300 travel credit). There's also the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, which brings 2 Ultimate Rewards points on travel and 3 Ultimate Rewards points on dining. Most onboard activities such as shows and deck-top attractions are included in the fare. It's not uncommon to find Carnival voyages to the Caribbean, Bahamas or Mexico starting well under $100 per person, per night including all taxes and fees — at least in the offseason. Unlike some lines, Carnival has resisted the trend of big-ship operators carving out whole sections of deck-top areas for the exclusive use of passengers staying in suites or willing to pay hefty access fees.

Cloud 9 Spa Ocean View (Walkway View)

Other interior cabins we’ve sailed in have a small sitting area with a couch. With that in mind, we recently stayed in stateroom #7238 aboard the Horizon. This interior cabin is classified as “4E”, one of the most common cabins on the ship.

Carnival draws a lively, outgoing crowd looking to be part of the action. At one level, Carnival can best be described as a working man's or working woman's vacation. The typical Carnival customer is a teacher, a nurse, a firefighter, a contractor or the like, either still working or retired. Carnival trips are all about letting loose and having a good time. Maybe you'll drink a little too much, eat a little too much, play a little too much — but in the end, you'll say it was your best trip ever.

The crew's flexibility and impressive level of service really stood out on this sailing. For example, we went through a storm during our cruise, and rough seas altered the Welcome Aboard production on the first night. Instead of a musical and dance show, the two onboard comedians performed a short bit of their routine. At least 200 people came out for the show, and the audience was enthusiastic and supportive.

There is no controllable vent in the bathroom, so if you need to have some white noise while you go, we suggest turning the shower on low. You can also use one of our tips and head to a public bathroom on the ship if you don’t want smells to linger in the cabin. This blog helps over a million people to plan their cruises each month. Some Cloud 9 Spa Interior rooms do actually have a fairly large window.

For that reason, only guests aged 12 and over can stay in a Havana cabin. The priority bookings for the other Cloud 9 Spa services only apply on day one – you can book for any point during the cruise, but once 6 pm hits on embarkation day those slots open up to all guests. An obstructed view room on a Carnival cruise is one that has something blocking the view from the window or balcony of the room. It may be the lifeboats, or in the case of Interior cabins with a window, it may be the walkway around the edge of the ship.

On Carnival cruises, a Premium Interior (code 4N or 4O) is essentially just a larger version of an Interior room. They’re about the same size as a Balcony cabin, but without the Balcony attached. They’re only available on Mardi Gras, and give you extra floor space compared to a regular Interior. An Interior Upper/Lower stateroom (category 1A) is one of the smallest rooms you can book at sea that isn’t a single cabin. It has a single twin bed and then either a Pullman bed or a sofa bed for the second guest.

The dining room features a Henrytimi dining table surrounded by Baker chairs under a pendant light that was custom-designed by Studio DADO and manufactured by Patrizia Volpato. The space opens into a private solarium where guests can stargaze on chaise lounges custom-designed by Studio DADO, made by Elledue, and upholstered in burnt orange Mokum alpaca velvet. Poolside RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila Bar were both a hub of activity most days. And if you're lounging by the pool, you can expect servers to come by often and take drink orders.

On embarkation day, I saw an almost endless sea of matching shirts announcing milestone birthdays, bachelorette parties and other special events. The overall vibe — which continued throughout the cruise — was energetic and festive, and most people didn't take themselves too seriously. It was clear from the moment we stepped on the ship that if you didn't have a fun time, it was entirely your fault. Carnival has been rolling out faster Wi-Fi systems across its fleet in the last couple of years, such that you can now stream video on some ships.
